Payes Performance Volleyball Club offer recruiting video services. Our professional staff will help kick off your daughter's college recruiting efforts with an engaging, energized, high-impact video that will make a lasting impression on colleges. Your video will feature (1) footage from a comprehensive skills session and (2) highlights from game footage.

Full HD* skills and highlights video: A professionally-edited 4-6 minute long video set to music. Our videos feature many contacts in a succinct, attention-grabbing package. The position-specific video features a player introduction, skill section segments, game highlights, statistics (if provided), and contact information.

  • Skills Session: We will tailor an individual, comprehensive half-hour to hour long session for your daughter at our volleyball facility in San Carlos, CA. This will allow us to isolate and capture her skills in a controlled environment. It is professionally done by experienced Paye's coaches with collegiate recruiting experience and filmed on our HD video equipment.
  • Condensed-Style Matches: You will submit raw footage of 3 complete matches of your choice. We will condense these matches by removing all pauses, timeouts, and game breaks. Full hour-long volleyball matches compressed into 10-20 minutes in full, high-qualify HD*! Coaches will request complete game footage, and condensed matches will allow them to see more of your daughter's contacts in less time.
  • Game Highlights: We will select highlights from these three matches to feature your daughter's gameplay in an engaging, fast-paced manner. These highlights will be organized by skill and bookmarked for quick navigation.
  • Revision Period: You will have access to a final proof of your video so you can request revisions before we make the final version.
  • YouTube Ready and Digital Copies: No more making dozens of copies of DVDs to mail out. Your video will be loaded directly on to YouTube, with customizable privacy settings that allow you to control who can see it. The video will be bookmarked for easy navigation from section to section. You will also receive digital copies of the videos on DVD.

Price: We offer these video services for $700

Game Filming Tips

  • Camera tips
    • Record in HD, if possible: HD (like Bluray) allows you to record up to 4 times the number of pixels as SD (like DVD). The HD standards, 720p and 1080p, correspond to 1280x720 pixels and 1920x1080 pixels respectively, compared to SD resolution of 720x480. 720i and 1080i are less ideal, since they have "interlaced" frames (only every other line changes each frame) which leads to nasty motion artifacts when capturing fast action like sports. We have professional equipment which can process your video to remove these artifacts, however. Some new camcorders also allow you to record at 60 frames per second as opposed to the old standard of 30 frames per second, making motion smoother. YouTube allows uploads in full HD so let's take advantage!
    • Test the wide-angle capability of a camera before you buy: Some cameras struggle to capture an entire volleyball court from 10 ft away and need to be placed 20-30 ft away in order to see the whole court. Most facilities don't have enough space for this. Test or research it before you buy!
    • Batteries: Instead of using proprietary extra batteries for my camera, We've been pretty happy with my universal battery pack from Gomadic. You purchase one rechargable battery pack and several cheap adapters for all your electronic devices.
    • Use a tripod: Avoid shakey-camera syndrome and employ a tripod. Tripods are universal and have a screw attachment that fits any video camera. If you've already spent a few hundred dollars on a camera, case, batteries, and memory, go out and get a stand so your videos are stable and watchable!
  • Submit all games from the same day: It's better to try to find highlights from the same day instead of cherry-picking three matches from different tournaments, since it makes your daughter look more consistent.
  • Video the entire court: It's preferred to set up the camera with a view of the entire court instead of a close-in pan-and-scan style following the ball. Volleyball is also about complex positioning, footwork, and movement, independent of the location of the ball, and coaches will want to see this.

Skills Session Tips

  • Prepare an opening and closing statement: We can film your introduction at the skills session on our equipment, no problem. Prepare your statement, introduce yourself, talk about where you've played, your position, and your goals. Practice it a few times so you can deliver it confidently and smoothly.
  • Wear your uniform: It looks more put together than a t-shirt.
  • Consistency is key: We aim to record approximately 5--10 contacts for each skill in succession, so we can show it without cutting. It's crucial to show an honest representation of your gameplay.
  • Remember, you're on camera!: Don't do anything distracting while we're recording.
